Important Information
You Should Know
Hypoglycemia

This is a condition that may occur in very tiny Chihuahua puppies and adults.
If you are not familiar this aspect of the breed, we suggest you consider adopting a
puppy who adult weight will be a minimum of 5 pounds.
Puppies of larger weights generally tend to be less prone to hypoglycemia.

Supervision

Chihuahuas puppies require careful, almost constant supervision. They must not under
any circumstances be permitted out doors without supervision they can become prey
for other animals or birds of prey.
They are not outside dogs.
However they do enjoy romping around at play in the back yard or the park with
owners. The number 1 Cause of Death in Toy size Dogs is attack from Larger breed dog
and Animals of prey

Chihuahuas for some reason like to get into high places and some how think they can
jump down from these places. They will surprise you by trying to unexpectedly leap out
of you arms!     I wish I could tell you how many cases my Vet sees in his office
Chihuahuas that have leaped out of there owners arms and have broken a leg or worse.
No matter how careful you are they can catch off guard. It has happened to Myself and
My husband and every single one of my partners at least once but thankfully there was
no harm done. It is very startling when it happens but if you can try to direct the falling
chihuahua to a near by couch or someplace soft failing that try to at least bat at the
falling dog to break the fall. It is Always better to be sitting down with your Chihuahua
rather than walking around or standing with them.

If you are going to be out, or preoccupied with something else, I strongly  recommend
placing your dog in a creat/cage. This also very useful in training your puppy.
He or she may protest at first, but you puppy will soon learn that this is his safe
personal space

Affection and Attention

Chihuahuas demand a lot  of affection. They thrive on it! They never seem to out grow
it. They give as good as they get. They really are a very loving adoring pet. If you are
looking for the ultimate lap dog you have found it. You don't own a Chihuahua the
Chihuahua owns You.

Children

I do not recommend a Chihuahua if you have children under they age of 12
Chihuahuas are very delegate creatures and can be easily hurt by a well meaning child.
This Chihuahua weight chart is a guide to What the adult
weight of Chihuahua might be. There are many factors
that affect the final size a Chihuahua may attain upon
reaching adulthood.  This chart  cannot predict the final
outcome with absolute certainty.  Chihuahua typically
reach their full physical size at 8 months old but, are still
growing and developing inside until they are 18 months

Check the chart at the bottom of
the page. To see the formula
used to predict their adult size
                             "The Uglies"
The "uglies" its that period between 16 weeks through
28weeks. Their legs and body seem to go through growth
spurts
((At different times)) making it seem through this brief
period of the "uglies" that their bodies are not anatomically
correct or out of proportion. Personally, they are never ugly to
me. By the time they are a year old their full adult coat is in
and their little bodies usually come back into proportion. I say
"usually" because sometimes this is when flaws will emerge.
Sometimes They will lose their cobby look and it will never
come back. Physically they are fine but they can be a little
below the breed standard. It is normal for them to look a little
gangly but is shouldn't be too, too, pronounced.
Their Coat however, (long coats only) will be almost none
existent, and patchy.    Unfamiliar people actually think their
"long coat" puppy is turning out to be a short coat. Let me
clear that up right now long coat Puppies NEVER start out
being long coats and turn out to be short coats. There can be
a difference in coat quality depending on the parents and
whether or not both are long coats or even if one or more
grandparents are a short coat. There is disagreement among
breeders as to whether or not this affects the full potential of
the coat. My personal opinion is I prefer short coats to be
bred with short coats and longs with longs. I strongly feel you
can lose the very best of both types when you put shorts and
long together. I love both types but again my passion is the
long coats.
